When I first started working in libraries, it was as an AmeriCorps VISTA. I coordinated a homework center and reading program. The supervisor of our programs was an amazing librarian and mentor. She is the person who encouraged me to go to library school and had a hand in me getting my first jobs after I finished my year of service. She embodies everything I think of when I imagine public librarians - she is kind, thoughtful, and truly believes in public service and engaging the community.
When I heard she retired I knew I wanted to make her something special, but also something that could be useful. What is more useful for a retired librarian than a book tote!? And it wasn't hard for me to come up with a design either. She IS a super librarian.
